A native of Atlanta, Mr. David Betts graduated from the Atlanta Public Schools in 1965. He attended St. Andrews Presbyterian College, Laurinburg, N.C. and graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. At St. Andrews, he was elected student body president. Upon graduation, Mr. Betts proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years. He received his law degree from the University of Georgia in 1974. In addition, he received a Masters in Theology from Colombia Theological Seminary in 1995, after serving as a student minister in the towns of St. Ives and Buntingford, England while studying Theology and Hebrew at Westminster College in Cambridge, England in 1993 and 1994.

While in law school, Mr. Betts was on the Student Editorial Board of the University of Georgia Section of the Georgia State Bar Journal. He also competed in the Intra-State Moot Court competition and was co-author and recipient of the Best Appellate Brief Award. Mr. Betts also published a case note in the May edition of the 1973 Georgia State Bar Journal while serving on the Board.

Upon graduation from law school, he became an associate with Webb, Parker, Young and Ferguson in Atlanta, Georgia, primarily doing general practice and civil litigation representing city and county governments in Georgia. In 1982, he formed his own firm. Mr. Betts left the practice of law in the fall of 1985. Mr. Betts founded Nehemiah LLC to provide affordable housing for the working poor. In May of 2000, Mr. Betts resumed the practice of law forming the firm of Betts & Associates located at 44 Broad Street, NW, Suite, 200 in Atlanta, Georgia. Since that time, he has primarily focused on a complex business and tort litigation in both Federal and State Courts in the North Georgia area. In 2005, Mr. Betts established a satellite office in Rome, Georgia to better serve his clients living in Northwest Georgia.

Mr. Betts has tried numerous cases to jury verdict as both lead and co-counsel and argued numerous cases before both the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Georgia. Recently, in one of those cases, he has been successful in getting the Supreme Court of Georgia to reaffirm the right of an employee to sue fellow employees for slander and liable. Additionally, Mr. Betts recently obtained a Ruling from the Georgia Court of Appeals reaffirming the right to seek sanctions for spoliation of evidence against individual and corporate defendants in a medical malpractice case involving the untimely death of a 30-year-old patient who died of breast cancer.

Mr. Betts is author of Appeals and Certiorari in Lower and Appellate Courts: The Law in Georgia. He is a member of the State bar of Georgia and is admitted to practice in the Appellate Courts of Georgia and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. Mr. Betts has been admitted pro hac vice to a number of other Federal District Courts outside of Georgia in order to represent victims of civil rights violations.

Mr. Betts has served as a Scoutmaster for Scout Troop 212 in Atlanta Georgia. He is a member of the Lumpkin Society of the University of Georgia School of Law. In addition, he is a lifetime member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia, and is a member of the Commerce Club. He has been married to Chris Quillian Betts since August 1969. Mrs. Betts works as a major gifts officer for the University of Georgia, and together they have a son, daughter, and one grandson.
