Margaret Betts works as a consultant to the Betts and Associates practice. Ms. Betts is a graduate of the Atlanta Public Schools, obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree Phi Beta Kappa from Johns Hopkins University, and has a Masters in Teaching from Smith College. A graduate of Yale Law School, she began her career working on disability law cases with the Yale Law School Clinic. There she represented clients in landlord-tenant and educational matters. Upon graduation, Ms. Betts worked for Brown, Goldstein and Levy, a trial law firm in Baltimore, Maryland. After working for Brown, Goldstein and Levy, she accepted a job as an assistant public defender for the State of Maryland. She worked in Baltimore County as an attorney in the District Court division. There, she acquired a reputation for diligently representing indigent clients. She successfully brought action against the State of Maryland for failing to make drug rehabilitation beds available for clients.

She also successfully argued for the dismissal of criminal charges by a state employee against a mentally disabled resident of a state residential facility in State v. Seelenbinder. Eventually, Ms. Betts left the courtroom and transferred to the prestigious Appellate Division of the Maryland Public Defenders Office. There she wrote briefs to the Maryland Court of Special Appeals and worked with colleagues on policy issues.

Having always been attracted to educational issues, Ms. Betts returned to school, enrolling in Smith College's Masters of Education program as a Teaching Fellow. She earned her M.Ed in 2007. Ms. Betts consults on Criminal Defense, Employment, Personal Injury and Workers Compensation cases. Additionally, Ms. Betts has interest in education issues. Ms. Betts graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Johns Hopkins University. She is an inactive member of the Maryland Bar and works in a research capacity for the firm.

Ms. Betts is the daughter of David Betts. She is married and has one son, Thomas.
